S1 E004 - Darkness Part 1

Right, well the fourth episode of this series was a serious step in the right direction. Up until now, Universe has been rideing on the SG coat tails. Now it's coming into it's own.

At the beginning of this episode we see Dr. Rush making everyone turn off any machines they have turned on. While they had got an order to see what it was they were for Dr. Rush knew that they were running out of power. We see several people in the mess and they are eating a sort of army issue 'gruel', made with water. They were discussing the systems of the ship and all the problems with it. They were also told that they could relax on the water restrictions which means they could have showers! Yeay. Dr. Rush was also discussed. When they all left, Dr Rush came in, late, and told Colonel Young about there power problems.

Later on, in the gate room Dr. Rush is continuing to explain the urgency of their power problems. Whilst this is happening, Dr. Rush has a mental breakdown. Finally, Colonel Young makes everyone stop Turing equipment on. As this is on going, Eli is flirting with Chloe and takes her o the ancients version of a shower. They don't seem to actually run on water, but rather some sort of chemical gas. When Chloe is in the shower the power finally goes. Everything is black.

Earlier, about 20 or 30 crew members try to intimadate Eli, and are trying to find out what is actually going on. Eli says that he doesn't know what's going on either, but when he does, he'll let them all know. They seem to think that, that's acceptable and he relaxes.

After the power has gone and Dr. Rush is out cold, a result of his break down and sleep deprivation, all the scientists have given up. It is Eli however, who continues to suggest ideas. He sends kinos around the ship looking for things that could be done. He also suggests that they could use the power from the shuttle somehow to power the ship. Colonel Young sets the scientists working that and he uses a communication stone to contact earth. Eli then uses the kinos to record last messages of the crew for 'posterity'.

While on earth, Telford is on the ship and is trying to usurp control of the ship again. Colonel Young did however leave Colonel Telford a message. "Use the crutch!" Quiet amusing. On Earth, Colonel Young visits his wife. First, another ranking officer goes into her house to explain the situation to her. When Young does go in, his wife is less than pleased. She won't let him touch her. She says she agreed to let him into the home but no more. Young tries to explain to her that he didn't pick his job over her. She does not believe him though. Colonel Young then returns to the Destiny when Colonel Telford is having a go off Lieutenant Scott. Lieutenant Scott is trying to explain that they have exited out of FTL on the outside of a solar system. Colonel Young is interested and we find out that they are on a course through the outer gas of a gas giant and that will sling shot them towards a livable planet.

Dr. Rush then wakes up, and there is a lovely scene with Lieutenant Johnson. He leaves and is soon apprised of the situation. After Eli, collects Chloe from the showers they go to a room with a wide window. There are a lot of people there with the same idea. They all want to see the outer rims of the gas planet. Everyone is then told to sit down with there backs away from the walls, it would break your back, as there will be a lot of turbulence. Afterwards they check their course and they find out that the velocity has sling shot them further than they thought. They want to know where they're going instead but the final scene is 'the sun'.

End episode.

Well, are you surprised I think that the show is starting to come into it's own. Okay, so it is a little cliched but, what sci fi isn't?

I'll report back tomorrow on the next episode. Bye.
